School of Information Systems
The School of Information Systems (IS) part of the Faculty of Information Technology at QUT .
The predecessor to the current School was known as the School of Computing Studies and was formed in 1983 by combining staff from the Faculties of Business and Science. In1989 a new School of Information Systems was established, and it is now one of two within the Faculty of Information Technology. The School office is located in S block on QUT's Gardens Point Campus, but units are also taught at the Carseldine and Caboolture campuses of QUT.
Within the Undergraduate program, the School runs several majors within the Bachelor of Information Technology, including Business Systems Engineering, Databases, Electronic Business, Information Systems, Information Knowledge Management, and Information Systems Management. There are also dual degree programs with other Faculties, such as Business/IT, IT/Education, Engineering/IT and IT/Law.
Postgraduate courses include Graduate Certificates, Graduate Diplomas, Masters of Information Technology and Doctoral (PhD) programs.
There are approximately 40 full-time academic staff in the School of IS, as well as several part-time academics, professional staff, and numerous tutors. The current Head of School is Dr Alan Tickle.
Academic staff actively participate in research. Members of the School publish dozens of conference and journal papers each year as well as several book chapters and complete books. As well as supervising Higher Degree Research students, many staff also act as external examiners and referees for theses, books and conference or journal articles.
Staff also have extensive industry experience maintaining ongoing links to industry through Consultancy and Professional Services. Cooperative projects with industry partners are regularly undertaken to provide students with real-world experience within an educational setting.
