Doctor of Information Technology (IT80)

The professional doctorate course is designed for experienced IT professionals to make a significant and original contribution to professional practice within the information technology discipline and is appropriate for those wishing to pursue substantial research problems within their workplace expertise. This program is an applied research degree which aims to further a student’s knowledge and improve practice/s in an industry/professional environment.

Research topics within a Professional Doctorate can include multidisciplinary problems suggested by external bodies, such as, industry, government and commerce, with joint supervisors from both academic and outside environments. The student’s doctoral work can be undertaken either on campus or at an off-campus location approved by QUT.

Entry requirements

Industry experience in a field relevant to the professional doctorate and possess one of the following:

  • a four-year degree or its equivalent with first-class or second class honours division A
  • a masters degree
  • a three-year bachelor degree and industry experience
  • an equivalent combination of experience and/or education and training.
  • Students with exemplary professional practice who do not meet one of the above criteria may still be eligible to apply and should consult the course coordinator.

International student entry

QUT advises that international students may enrol only in full-time studies. This course is currently awaiting CRICOS approval. Please contact the Faculty for further information.
