The focus of this discipline is on using technology to solve complex business problems. As an information systems professional, you will play a key role in determining the requirements for an organisation's information systems as well as their specification, design and implementation. Information systems is a broad discipline covering a number of areas ranging from information systems consulting to programming and from multimedia systems to workflow management. Career outcomesGraduates are employed as information technology consultants, information technology managers, database developers, web-site developers, and business and systems analysts. Network systemsComputer networks are ubiquitous in organisations. As a graduate with a network systems major you will be able to monitor, analyse, design, plan, implement, administer and manage these networks. In this major you will acquire knowledge and skills required to work with network protocols, services, administration, management, security and wireless networks. Career outcomesGraduates work in the field of network administration, network management and network planning and design as a network administrator, network systems engineer, network support engineer, network engineer, server engineer, network specialist, server specialist or network manager. Software architectureModern society is dependent upon software. Banking, phone systems, TV broadcasting, medical services, entertainment, cars, and even bus fares are all controlled by software systems. The software architecture major will provide you with the knowledge and skills of modern software engineering techniques to enable you to work in this dynamic field. You will acquire the high-level skills required to design and build complex integrated systems that will shape our future society. Career outcomesAs a software architecture professional you could be employed as a software engineer, software developer, analysts/programmer, software systems architect, component systems architect, quality assurance/tester or software project manager. No Major OptionThis option allows you to customise your degree to meet your own interests and career goals. You may select a set of six units that come from the three majors above and from any other undergraduate information technology units offered within the Bachelor of Information Technology. Your academic transcript will reflect the knowledge and skills you have acquired during your course. You may choose any 6 ITB units (subject to prerequisite eligibility) from the Information Technology Undergraduate Electives/Options List. |
