Student Unix Server

If you are currently enrolled in a Faculty of Information Technology unit you should have an account on the student UNIX server, EVEREST. This account is automatically created once your enrolment has been processed.

If you do not have an EVEREST account, contact Student Services at A Block Gardens Point to check that you are actually enrolled in a Faculty of Information Technology unit.

Accessing EVEREST using the X Window system

The FIT student laboratory PCs include X-Win32 software that allows you to login to EVEREST and work with a graphical user interface (GUI) in a manner similar to Microsoft Windows.

The FIT student laboratories have X-Win32 software to help you log in to and work on EVEREST.

Steps for logging in to EVEREST using X-Win32

  1. Select Start from the Windows Task Bar.
  2. Select the Lab Software program group folder.
  3. Select the X-Win32 5.2 program group.
  4. Double-click on the X-Win32 icon. This will start the
X-Win32 software. You should see the X-Win32 screen loading
  5. Once X-Win32 has started, you can log in using your student number as the username (replace the first "0" with an "n", e.g. n1234567) and your QUT Access password.

Student file storage on EVEREST

Data Storage is also available on EVEREST. Please see here for more details.
