Q2. How do I know when lectures and tutorials start?

The Academic Calendar is available online or in print from A block. Lectures generally start in week 1. Most tutorials and practicals start in week 2 - you will be told when the tutorials or practicals start during the first lecture and in the week 1 document.

 

Q3. Where can I get second hand textbooks?

These can be purchased through the Student Guild Help Desk, located on level 2 in Y block (GP). Also check out the notice boards around campus for cheap IT second hand books sold by other students mainly located on the 3rd and 4th floors of S block.

 

Q4. Which bus do I catch to get to university?

Bus and train information can be found on the TransInfo Web site

 

Q5. Where can I find class timetables?

The complete list of class timetables can be found on the QUT Virtual Class and Exam Timetables page. You can use the class timetable search option to find times for the subjects in which you are not enrolled. Your Personal Profile on QUT Virtual will display the times for the subjects in which you are currently enrolled.

Q6. Where can I find casual employment?

Casual Employment Service

If you need some extra cash then the Casual Employment Service may be what you are looking for. Current vacancy lists are available for perusal at Your Guild Help Desks. There are normally a variety of casual or part-time jobs advertised from child minding to waiting on tables. There should be something there to help you pay the bills. Contact the Casual Employment Service at casual.employment@sg.qut.edu.au

Casual Employment Services Announcements

Students wishing to be notified of new job vacancies can subscribe to the Casual Employment Service Announcement list. Enter your QUT student e-mail address in the box below and click on the Join Now button.

Please note, subscriptions will only be accepted from @student.qut.edu.au email addresses. Contact the Student Computing Help Desk for information about how to forward your email from your @student account to a private account such as @hotmail.com, @yahoo.com etc.

 

Q7. How do I find my way around?

There are site maps located all around QUT campuses. For an online map, select a campus below then click on the link at the bottom of each page.

When looking for a room - for example S811, S denotes the block, the last two numbers denote the room, and the first numbers indicate the level. So, S1011 is located in S block, level 10, room 11.

Q8. Where do I go if I lose something?

Objects lost in the S-block computer laboratories are often turned in to the level 5 Faculty Office. The QUT central Lost Property is located at M block Level 1.

Q12. How many subjects do I have to undertake to make me eligible for Austudy?

You will have to undertake at least 75 per cent of the normal full-time student workload each semester. This means that you will have to undertake at least three - 12 credit point subjects for IT.

 

Q13. How do I send and receive email from QUT Webmail?

Webmail allows email to be sent and received from a web browser anywhere in the world. You login using your QUT student number and password, and then you can check your inbox and compose new mail.
