Q1. What is MSDNAA? Q1. What is MSDNAA?MSDNAA stands for Microsoft Developers' Network Academic Alliance. As a QUT FIT Student, you have access to various software applications that can be downloaded for free and used under an educational license.
Q2. What can I download? There is a range of software that can be downloaded from the MSDNAA. This includes copies of Windows XP and Windows Vista, as well as Visual Studio 2005 and Microsoft Project 2003. For a full list of available software, visit the MSDNAA Site and login using your account.
Q3. How do I access MSDNAA?The MSDNAA site is accessible through the following link: http://msdn70.e-academy.com/qut_fitts. Once here, you will need to login. All FIT students have an account created automatically. You should have received an email from MSDNAA informing you of your username and password. If you can't find the email, you can retrieve your password by following the "Forgot my Password" link. Do this using your login, which will always be your student number, followed by @student.qut.edu.au (ie n1234567@student.qut.edu.au). Your password will be emailed out to your student email account.
Q4. Is there any important information I should know before downloading? As part of the licensing agreement, software can only be downloaded from the MSDNAA once. Therefore, make sure you have plenty of blank CDs or DVDs at hand so that you can burn your software once it's downloaded. Most of the software from MSDNAA is downloaded as an ISO file. This means that it is a disk image file. When burning these files, you need to select 'Burn Disk Image' from the burning software you are using. Q5. Where should I download the software?Although you can download it anywhere, QUT's labs are safest. The lab computers at QUT are connected to the servers from which the software is downloaded. This means that downloads are faster, more reliable, and don't count towards your quota! Before you begin your download, you should make sure that the computer you are using has a working CD or DVD burner. Within S Block, labs S826 and S601 have the newest computers, and are fitted with DVD burners. These labs are probably the safest for downloading from.
