Abstract

In a recent book, Nicolas Carr has argued that IT does not matter since IT has become commoditized, and does share a strategic relationship with business. While Carr's book was widely discussed and critiqued, his thesis was never convincingly dismissed or overturned. This talk will consider the future of IT security under the Carr thesis, and argue that the security function is being subsumed into the larger imperative of IT Risk Management.

After working briefly for Certicom (then called Mobius), Dr. O’Connor moved to the Security Group at the Distributed System Technology Centre, Australia, a group that he eventually lead.
